Hello World!

This isn’t the first time I’ve rebuilt my personal website, but it is the one that I feel most mirrors me.

I’m a nerd, and being able to use Claude to help me reach my desired visual aesthetic way quicker than I could have imagined is a dream. You might wonder where the inspo for the website comes from, and I’ll be honest - PostHog. I just loved the feel of the website and wanted to adapt the premise that felt true to me. The terminal is a place where I spend a chunk of my time, so it felt very fitting.

Anyways, enough about the website design. If you’re meeting me for the first time through this post, then Hello 👋!

My name is Jess and for the last eight years I’ve been working in the data and analytics space across several different types of businesses from ed-tech, cyber to betting and also healthcare.

The work I’ve had the opportunity to work on has been exciting but mostly behind closed doors. The lessons I’ve learned mostly live in my head or in a Slack thread that only a handful of people will ever read.

When I made the leap from Analyst to Analytics Engineer, I realised that so much of my previous knowledge wasn’t documented anywhere and I want to make sure the things I’m learning on this new journey around analytics engineering and AI in analytics have somewhere to live.

So this is the fix. A second brain, in my own corner of the internet.

Somewhere to put the things I’m figuring out while I’m still figuring them out. This might be work from a personal project and setting up dbt models. It might be the certification that I’m working towards or new AI stuff I’m working on. Less of a here’s how you should do it, more of a here’s what happened when I did it.

I’m not sure yet what it becomes. Maybe it stays a set of notes I come back to or maybe someone a step behind me finds one of them at the exact moment they’re stuck on the same thing. Both are fine.

The one rule I’m giving myself: write it down while it’s still messy, before I’ve tidied it into something that sounds smarter than the actual process was.

That’s the whole idea. Start writing before it’s clean.
